The PSL’s Matches official logo was launch on 20 September 2015 in ceremony in Lahore. It was reveal by 3Di. The ceremony was attend by current and retire cricketers as well as celebrities. The commercial rights to initial franchises were sold for US$93 million for span of 10 years in December 2015. Each team playing matches in double round robin format; top four teams with best record qualify for playoffs and culminates in championship game, PSL Cup Final. The league is base in Pakistan Cricket Board office in Lahore.

In September 2015, Pakistan Cricket Board officially announce launch of PSL Matches. Former Pakistani national team captains Wasim Akram and Rameez Raja sign up to promote PSL Matches and become brand ambassadors of league for three years. After several years it began on 4 February 2016 in United Arab Emirates where Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari inaugurated opening ceremony. In its first season PSL Matches had higher percentage of international players.

The players draft took place on 10 January 2021 in Lahore. On 15 February 2021, Mohammad Rizwan replaced Shan Masood as captain of Multan Sultans.

In June 2020, Pakistan Cricket Board announced that they plan to add Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar as fifth venue in this edition of PSL Matches. However, delays in construction of stadium may make it difficult to host matches of the tournament. PCB also planned to hold few matches in Faisalabad and Hyderabad as well. Stadium in Hayatabad was also announce as possible venue for some matches.

In September 2020, PCB confirm that both Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar and Bugti Stadium in Quetta would be unable to host this season’s matches. However, it was later decide that tournament will be held at only Karachi and Lahore.

The Pakistan Super League on Friday announced schedule for “biggest party in Pakistan” set to take place tomorrow in Karachi. Referring to opening ceremony of PSL Matches sixth edition, post said glittering event will begin at 6:45pm on Saturday.

The venue announced earlier by Pakistan Cricket Board as National Stadium. The first four ceremonies were held at Dubai International Stadium while 2020 opening ceremony was staged at National Stadium Karachi and same venue will play host to 2021 ceremony.

The stars to perform will include Atif Aslam, who will make his PSL Matches opening ceremony debut. While rapper Imran Khan and model Humaima Malik will be present alongside PSL Matches 2021 anthem stars Naseebo Lal, Aima Baig and Young Stunners. The first match between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators will begin right after ceremony at 8pm.
